Scholarships of up to $500 to New Mexico Jewish children and youth (ages 8-18) to attend qualifying Jewish summer camps or sleep-away summer camp programs. Prospective applicants may use a single application form to request a scholarship from one of the following two summer camp funds:

Galit Mares Scholarship Fund:
In memory of Galit Mares, the fund provides scholarship awards for the benefit of Jewish youth from the Albuquerque area for Jewish summer camp.

About the Fund: The fund was established in 1995 by Etti Mares Benvenisti in memory of her Fdaughter, Galit Mares. Israeli-born Etti came to America at age twenty and eventually made her home in Albuquerque where she launched a career with a focus on children and families within the University of New Mexico Child Psychiatry program. Etti passed away in 2012.

Irving and Hertha Auerbach Fund for Jewish Identity:
In memory of Irving and Hertha Auerbach, the fund provides scholarship awards for the benefit of Jewish youth from New Mexico for Jewish "sleep-away" summer camp.

Camp must be a “sleep-away” camp accredited by the American Camping Association and listed by the Foundation for Jewish Camps.

About the Fund: Irving and Hertha Auerbach were respected scientists, community members and long-time members of both Congregation B’nai Israel and Congregation Albert. They are especially remembered for their dedication to creating and sustaining the libraries at their synagogues.

This scholarship may provide a maximum of $500 per applicant.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Foundation administers funds that award scholarships benefiting New Mexicans who are:
-Jewish students seeking to attend a Jewish enrichment program or camp in the U.S. or abroad

The applicant/camper must be 8-18 years old.

Pre-Application Information:

Apply between February 1 and April 1. Awards will be made April 15.
