Grants of up to $500 to USA and territories public schools, preschools, Head Start programs, and public libraries to implement creative educational projects. This program provides an opportunity for teachers and librarians to present special projects outside the usual curriculum, or to engage students in meeting curricular goals.
An innovative program can:
-Develop required academic skills in a creative and exciting way.
-Allow educators to collaborate across disciplines.
-Inspire students to work hard toward a desired goal, applying necessary skills and knowledge to the project and the team.
-Involve whole families and bridge generations to benefit the larger community.
-Give children the opportunity to explore their own culture and learn about others.
Successful programs have included a public story walk, a multicultural portrait project, a school garden, bookmaking, puppetry, and intergenerational storytelling.
Great Mini-Grant programs:
-Are creative, innovative and fun
-Can become an annual event
-Benefit the children and the community

Mini Grant programs must cost $500 or less.
Projects must be implemented during the summer or school year following receipt of the Mini-Grant.
Public schools, public libraries, preschools, and Head Start programs may apply.
Applicants may be located in the United States and U.S. commonwealths and territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam.
Private schools, parochial schools, and charter schools are not eligible.
To qualify for funding from the EJK Foundation, the Board of Trustees requires that schools meet the following criteria:
-The curriculum, pay scale, budgets and rules must be created, controlled and administered by the local public Department of Education.
-The quality assessment and viability of a school must be entirely in the purview of the Department of Education.
-Teachers must be licensed as qualified instructors by the Department of Education.
-Teachers on staff are union members and have union representation (except in states where public employees are prohibited from collective bargaining).
-The operation of the school does not earn profits for shareholders of corporations designed to treat the creation, housing or management of the school as a money-making operation.
-Once again, all foundations focus their giving practice according to the dictates of their Trustees. The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation has supported programs in public schools as defined above for over 30 years and will continue to do so.
Including the following materials and costs in your budget will disqualify your application.
-General operating and administrative costs
-Materials, books and equipment unrelated or incidental to the program
-Materials, books and equipment intended for reuse outside the program
-Production or purchase of merchandise intended for sale
Projects must be supported solely by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.
Submit your application by March 31, 11:59 PM.
You will be notified by email about the status of your application on or around May 1, whether or not your proposal has been accepted.
Checks: Mini-Grant checks will be mailed on or around May 15.
