Awards of $1,000 and awards of $2,000 to Montgomery County, Maryland elementary, middle, and high school public school teachers for excellence and commitment to teaching. Separate awards will be given to experienced teachers (at least five years' experience) and to novice teachers (four or fewer years' experience).

The Marian Greenblatt Education Fund will award three Master Teachers a $2,000 cash prize each and one Rising-Star Teacher $1,000. In addition, if the PTA of the winning teacher’s school is active in the nomination process, it will receive $100 for school supplies, equipment, or enrichment programs.

All winners are honored at the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education’s Champions for Children Ceremony in the spring, when the County Teacher of the Year will be announced.

Applicants will be judged using the three broad categories below:

- Student Focus and Results: The students demonstrate positive academic results compared to peers and benchmarks.
The teacher motivates students to excel, with innovative instruction methods.

- Commitment to Montgomery County Public Schools: The teacher contributes to the Montgomery County Public School system through sharing teaching practices, displaying leadership outside of her/his own school, and (for Master teachers) acting as a mentor for young colleagues.

- Links to School and Community: The teacher is active in professional organizations, school activities, and MCPS efforts, as well as the larger community.
