Grants to Connecticut residents for projects that create a positive impact on eligible communities. Applicants will participate in a training opportunity to enable local leaders to create and implement community-building projects. Funding for projects will be granted after the training sessions. Eligible projects are those that have a positive impact in the communities of New Haven, West Haven, East Haven, and Hamden.

Grantees will learn the skills and practices of:

  • Appreciating and using their personal strengths and core values.
  • Building relational culture in their community and with other leaders.
  • Understanding the resources and challenges involved in creating the community they want.
  • Creating and using a group of allies to support them in their work.
  • Designing and implementing a pilot project that will positively impact their community.
  • Learning from their pilot how to modify or scale up their project.
  • Developing and managing the human and material resources they need to produce effective positive impact.

The program will have an impact on neighborhoods and the greater New Haven area, including:

  • Relational connections: resiliency, understanding, resourcing, social change.
  • Building self-sufficient communities.
  • Creating self-supportive and sustainable opportunities within families, health and community services.
  • Broadening the scope of programming possibilities within neighborhoods/communities.

Estimated Size of Grant:

This grant provides:
- Training: new frameworks, new skills, new practices.
- Ongoing connections with other participants and with your community.
- Support for pilot projects: Up to $500.
- Support for second-stage projects: up to $2500.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

New Haven, West Haven, East Haven or Hamden residents who have demonstrated a commitment to making a positive difference through resident engagement are eligible to apply.
