Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC)
Grants of up to $5,000 and grants of up to $25,000 to Columbus, Ohio nonprofit arts and cultural organizations for a broad range of arts and cultural events, projects, and programming. The projects must be open to the public and have a defined implementation plan.
Applicants presenting seasons, series, or other multiple activity projects spread over a range of dates are encouraged to include the entire body of activities in one application.
The Arts Council welcomes the opportunity to support existing activities and programs as well as new organizations and projects.
Applicants can apply for Tier A or Tier B of Project Support Grants depending on their need.
Project Support: Tier A: Arts Council funding requests may be applied to any expense line item in the project budget directly related to the arts and cultural activities. Priority funding areas include: payment to artists or artistic salaries (related to project), marketing/promotion for the project activities, exhibit/production supplies or materials and venue expense.
Project Support: Tier B: Arts Council funding requests in Tier B may only be applied to the following line item expenses: payment to artists, marketing/promotion for the project activities, exhibit/production supplies or materials and venue expense.
Festivals that apply for grant funding from city of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department may only apply Arts Council funding toward the following expenses: payment to artists and/or payment to creative service providers (graphic designer, set designer, lighting tech, etc). Applicant must demonstrate efforts to use Columbus-based artists and artistic service providers, when possible.

Project activity dates are from April 1, 2018 to December 30, 2018.
Applicants must fall under one of the two following categories to apply.
- Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose primary focus is arts and culture: Operating Support recipients with budgets under $5 million may be eligible to apply for new, innovative programs/initiatives or collaborative projects upon approval.
- The following applicants are eligible if they are in a collaboration with a qualified, local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who will serve as the Fiscal Sponsor for the duration of the grant: Groups without 501(c)(3) status; individual artists; university or college departments provided that the project focuses its public reach beyond the University/college community and project activities do not result in student credit or are considered part of the required curriculum.

In addition, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Based in and/or providing service to the city of Columbus (Columbus zip codes);
- Demonstrate compensation to all artists involved in the project
What types of projects or events are ineligible?
- Fundraising events
- Permanent public art installations
- Arts education or youth programs
- Arts therapy programs
- Projects that do not demonstrate a significant benefit to the public
- Projects that primarily support or fund one individual artist
There will be One on One sessions with GCAC staff. On January 1, 2018 the new grant guidelines will be posted and the new GoArts application portal will launch.
Sign up for a one-on-one session with a GCAC staff member before starting an application. Note that the sessions are divided by Artists and Organizations. Please select the correct one. Sessions are short, so come prepared to discuss specific questions, ideas or challenges.

If the application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day.

Grants & Services staff will review draft applications and provide comments up to two (2) weeks before the application deadline. To request a draft review, click “Request Feedback” at the bottom of the application in the GoArts system. Please allow one week for a response.
Applicants can submit one (1) Project Support application per calendar year (Tier A or Tier B).
Requests must reflect a dollar for dollar (1:1) cash match. This match can include tickets/admissions, concessions/merchandise sales, grants, corporate sponsors, individual donations or cash on hand.
All support materials must be uploaded digitally to the GoArts system. Hard copy materials will not be accepted.
