Grants of up to $5,000 to South Dakota organizations and individual educators, naturalists, and researchers for projects addressing native wildlife. Applications are invited for projects focusing on wildlife inventory and monitoring. Proposed projects must directly address native species and their habitat. Emphasis will be on project need and cost-effectiveness.

Project awards are limited to $5,000 per applicant or organization.

If one individual or organization has submitted more than one project that scores high enough for funding, those projects will be funded only if the accumulated total remains below $5,000.

Term of Contract:

Projects should be limited to one year. Multi-year projects will be considered, but additional annual funding will not be available.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Wildlife Diversity Small Grants Program provides funding for researchers, educators and naturalists.

Grants may be issued to organizations or individuals.

Projects or applicants must meet these criteria:
-Employees of the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks are not eligible to apply.
-State, federal and tribal governmental agencies are ineligible to apply. Individual employees of those agencies can apply as private citizens. Proposals from local levels of government will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
-Must provide a product directly useable by the public with a written report submitted to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.
-Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
-Projects involving more than one applicant must select one individual to be responsible for completing the project. This individual will sign the state contract.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant proposals are due Feb. 16, 2018.

All eligible and acceptable projects will be reviewed and ordered by priority using a predetermined ranking system. Projects will then be funded from highest to lowest priority until funds are exhausted or until all eligible and acceptable projects are funded. GFP reserves the right to not use the full funding amount if projects are deemed ineligible.

All applicants will be notified of their project status by March 31, 2018.
