Grants to Cleveland Area, Ohio and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota nonprofit organizations and government agencies to benefit eligible communities across a broad range of areas. Applications may be submitted for various funds in areas such as education, healthcare, basic human needs, the environment, and programs benefitting disadvantaged groups.

Families, corporations, individuals and even private foundations have established funds at the Cleveland Foundation. These funds have their own grantmaking strategies and application processes. Applications may be submitted for the following funds:

Frank Hadley Ginn & Cornelia Root Ginn Foundation:

The mission of the Frank Hadley Ginn & Cornelia Root Ginn Foundation is to address education and community-based healthcare needs of low income individuals through the support of effective programs and services that bring about long-term solutions for individuals and the community, particularly in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

With respect to education, the fund will consider not only grants to academic institutions, but also to organizations that meet non-academic educational needs—for example, programs that address such issues as disease avoidance, child and family counseling, after-school training, arts, housing and employment.

Current, former and new grantee organizations are welcome to apply.

Higley Fund:

Primary focus for responsive grantmaking is project-based support for basic human needs with a particular interest in food, housing, education/training, health, and crisis intervention in Cuyahoga County.

Legacy Village Lyndhurst Community Fund:

The purpose of the Legacy Village Lyndhurst Community Fund is primarily to support philanthropic and other charitable purposes in Lyndhurst its contiguous communities and the South Euclid-Lyndhurst public schools. It is the intent of the funds to primarily benefit the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Public Schools and various programs and not-for-profit organizations serving the residents of the City of Lyndhurst and its contiguous communities.

Sally and John Morley Family Fund:

Fund’s Mission Statement: The Morley Family fund focuses its support on U.S.-based organizations striving to achieve significant systemic change in the area of mental health and/or at the intersection occurring among two or more of the following areas: education, health, the environment and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations.

Systemic Impact and Prevention Focus:

Focus on organizations providing services or doing research that provide or enable long-lasting, systemic and/or prevention benefits to their target populations (i.e. solutions with long-term impacts rather than providing short-term necessities such as food and clothing) and organizations/areas in which the fund’s giving can make an impact.

Grants focus on the following geographical areas: Cleveland, OH, and Minneapolis – Saint Paul, MN for 2018.

Thatcher Family Fund:

Focus is food, clothing, shelter, and medical care for the neediest people in the Cleveland area

Estimated Size of Grant:

Frank Hadley Ginn & Cornelia Root Ginn Foundation: Grants will typically range from $2,500 to $15,000.

Higley Fund: Grants typically range from $10,000 to $25,000.

Legacy Village Lyndhurst Community Fund: The fund will award multiple grants ranging from $250 to $5,000.

Systemic Impact and Prevention Focus: Grants will typically range from $5,000 to $50,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Cleveland Foundation makes most of its grants to tax-exempt agencies classified as 501(c)(3) organizations (public charities as defined by the Internal Revenue Service) in Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga Counties. Some grants are also made to government agencies and churches.

Applicants are advised to review the guidelines for the fund for which they intend to apply.
