Funding is available for the general operations of arts nonprofits as well as county arts councils. Other forms of assistance may be requested to support, strengthen, and connect the Lowcountry arts ecosystem.

-Annual expenses of $100,000 - $200,000: Maximum $20,000
-Annual expenses of $200,000 - $500,000: Maximum $25,000

You must be a 501(c)(3) public charity.

You must have completed at least one full fiscal year of operations before applying.

You must demonstrate or strongly promise artistic vitality. Determining artistic vitality is subjective. The Foundation takes into account how much programming an organization offers and the degree of professionalism, factoring in the artistic discipline, budget size, location, and where an organization happens to be in its evolution.

Arts groups should reflect the vitality and diversity of the Lowcountry, which includes the Counties of Jasper, Hampton, Beaufort, Colleton, Charleston, Berkeley, Georgetown, and Horry.

The following are not eligible:
-Organizations primarily focused on arts education or social service.
-Amateur or community arts groups.
-Presenting organizations.
-Groups that are legally, financially, or operationally part of a larger institution, e.g. the art department of a college.
-Religious activities, political campaigns, or legislative lobbying.
-Stand-alone conferences, publications, films, events, websites, or videos.
-Endowments, capital campaigns, or debt reduction.

Full proposals are reviewed twice a year. Your complete proposal must be submitted online by 11:59 PM Central Time on:

-Friday, March 31, 2017 for review at the July 2017 board meeting
-Friday, July 28, 2017 for review at the November 2017 meeting

All in all, it takes about four months from grant application deadline through board decision. After the board meeting, the Foundation will contact you by email within a couple weeks.

If you’re a first-time applicant, Foundation staff must see your work before you can be considered for a grant, so please contact Kerri Forrest, Lowcountry Program Director as soon as you know your performance schedule and inform the Foundation that you're planning to apply.
