Grants to Hawaii nonprofit organizations and community groups to enhance the quality of life in communities where the funding source has a business presence. Program areas include but are not limited to education, arts and culture, community, and health and human services.
The Kokua Giving Program’s objective is to improve the quality of life in communities where A&B companies operate and where employees reside, primarily in Hawaii.
Within these areas, the Giving Program’s priorities are to:
-Support organizations and projects that address significant and/or high priority community needs
-Have a nexus to A&B’s business activities and/or employees
-Have the proven support of the community in which the organization serves
The A&B Kokua Giving program is focused on Hawaii charities and works to support its communities through broad-based giving. A&B will consider support for startup, general operating and special project needs as well as major and minor capital requests.
Types of Support:
Cash donations and sponsorships will be considered for Federally recognized charities, other registered non-profit organizations OR community-based projects or groups that serve geographic areas where A&B has business operations and its employees reside.
Priorities are organizations and projects that:
-Address significant and/or high priority community needs;
-Have a nexus to A&B’s business activities and/or employees;
-And have the proven support of the community.
Fundraising Event Sponsorship:
Nonprofit organizations and community groups seeking support for fundraising dinners/events/activities may submit letters of request.

Large Requests are $20,000 or greater and may only be submitted for the February 1 and August 1 deadlines.
Multi-year commitments are considered in very limited circumstances.
-Requests are considered from federally recognized charities with IRS Section 501(c)(3) status, other registered nonprofit organizations OR community-based projects or groups that serve geographic areas where A&B has business operations and its employees reside.
Fundraising Event Sponsorship:
-Nonprofit organizations and community groups may apply.
-Generally, only one application will be considered each calendar year from an organization.
-Donations will not be made to benefit individuals, or for religious or political causes.
-Endowments are generally not funded.
Grant decisions are made at bi-monthly meetings held in the odd-numbered months of the year.
Please submit your application at least 60 days prior to your event or project deadline.
Completed applications received by the close of business on the due date noted below (or the following business day if the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday) will generally be considered on the following month’s agenda.
Large requests ($20,000 or greater) are considered twice a year: March and September.

Decisions on donation requests are communicated in writing, generally by the end of each meeting month.
If selected, funds will be transmitted by A&B within a few weeks of the notification of award.
