Grants ranging from $100 to $2,000 to Cattaraugus County Area nonprofit organizations, government agencies, universities, and school districts to meet local community needs. The Foundation provides grants for health care, education, the arts, scholarships, community development, youth development, and human services. Priority is given to residents of the Cattaraugus County (NY) region and nearby communities served by specific funds managed by the Foundation including those in Allegany County (NY) and McKean County (PA).

The Community Fund is an unrestricted fund to benefit the community’s greatest needs, including Foundation events and activities that support the Community Foundation’s mission.

Proposals are assessed on organization strength, community need or opportunity, feasibility and impact, project budget and the role of the CRCF grant.

CRCF gives priority to organizations and/or projects that:
-Provide vital community services
-Build the capacity of the applying organization

Grants awards from the Community Fund are generally in the range of $100 to $2,000.

CRCF will make grants to charitable organizations that are tax-exempt under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3), governmental units, school districts and universities.

Grants to religious institutions may be considered, however, the program must serve a community need (e.g. food program for the needy).

CRCF generally does not provide grants to or for:
-Individuals (except for scholarships awarded to the student’s account at a college or post-secondary institution). However, the Foundation will consider grants for individuals who are part of a certain charitable class for a particular purpose such as disaster relief, homeless, etc.
-For-profit organizations
-Sectarian religious activities
-Political purposes
-Program ads
-Fundraising events or sponsorships
-Organizations that discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin or physical ability

Generally, grants are not intended to fund ongoing annual needs.

Grant applications for the Community Fund are accepted in two funding cycles, the April 21 deadline for consideration at the May board meeting and the October 21 deadline for consideration at the November board meeting.

Applicants are notified of the board’s decision in a timely manner following the board meeting, generally within two weeks.
