Grants of up to $50,000 to New York nonprofit organizations to address community needs and enhance the quality of life for local residents in eligible regions. Applicants must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a full application. The Foundation encourages projects that address basic human needs such as providing food and shelter for the needy in Erie and Niagara Counties. Projects may also benefit Cattaraugus, Allegany, Chautauqua, Genesee, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties.

WNY Grants are available in amounts of $50,000 and under.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

An organization seeking support must be determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Private foundations, as defined in Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code, are not eligible for Foundation support.

In general, Foundation support is not provided for:
- Ongoing operating expenses
- Endowment
- Private education
- Salaries
- Scholarships
- Sponsorships
- Travel expenses
- Technology
- Security deposits or rent assistance

The Foundation does not make grants to:
- Individuals
- Religious organizations for religious purposes
- Organizations which make grants to others
- Lobbying or advocacy for specific political candidates or legislation

Timeline:
- 2021 Letter of Intent Form: May 17, 2021
- 2021 Grant Application: August 2, 2021 (If the Letter of Intent Form is accepted, and the organization is invited to complete the WNY Grant Application.)

The WNY Grant Application is a 2-step process. This begins with completing the on-line Letter of Intent Form. If the Letter of Intent is accepted, the applicant is invited to complete the on-line Grant Application Form. The Letter of Intent Form is reviewed by a Screening Committee of East Hill Board and Staff. Grant Applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors and site visits are scheduled. Final decisions on Grant Applications are made by the East Hill Foundation Board of Directors at the Fall Board Meeting.
