Grants ranging from $750 to $3,000 and grants ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 to Texas nonprofit organizations, agencies, and schools to encourage healthy nutrition and physical activity for PreK-12 students. The Foundation’s goal is to reduce obesity and promote healthy habits for families, children and communities in the state.

Funding Levels:

Healthy Choices Grants Level 1 ($750-$3,000):

Level 1 grants are awarded for a single school year (two or more semesters) or a summer program. Campus level, Grade Level, Teacher and Summer Programs that meet the minimum requirement of 3 of the 7 Healthy messages will be considered for Level 1 funding. A physical activity and nutrition educational component are required as two of the three Healthy Messages. Including more than 3 of the Healthy Messages is encouraged.

All programs must have a sustainability plan. For those grants that are purchasing equipment or supplies that are on an annual renewal basis, the grant must include a plan to renew said equipment/supplies for subsequent years.

Healthy Choices Grant Level 2 ($3,000 to $5,000):

Level 2 grants are awarded for a two-year (4 semesters) or longer program that includes a minimum of 5 of the 7 Healthy Messages. A physical activity and nutrition educational component are required as two of the 5 or more Healthy Messages. Level 2 grants are intended to create a long-term sustainable program at the campus level.

All programs must have a sustainability plan. For those grants that are purchasing equipment or supplies that are on an annual renewal basis, the grant must include a plan to renew said equipment/supplies for subsequent years.

Healthy Messages:
- Choose 5-a-day servings of fruits and vegetables
- Have more water and less sugary beverages
- Opt for healthy snacks
- Increase active play and decrease screen time
- Choose 3-a-day servings of low-fat dairy products
- Enjoy a healthy breakfast
- Serve a smart portion size

Projects are selected based on:
- Focus on prevention of childhood obesity implementing 3 or more of the Oliver Foundation's seven healthy messages for Level 1 Grants and 5 or more for Level 2 grant.
- A nutrition and physical activity education component are mandatory.
- Programs that meet a clear, identifiable need.
- Creativity
- Operational strength of the applicant organization, including project leadership
- Sustainable impact of the overall program.

The Oliver Foundation is an operating foundation and thus will provide support and on-site visits during the grant period.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Level 1 Grants are: Summer - $750; Individual Teacher - $1,000; Campus Grade Level - $2,000; and Campus Grants - $3,000

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants will be awarded to Texas nonprofit organizations, agencies and schools that demonstrate the greatest need and likelihood of a sustainable impact on children's nutrition and activity levels through innovative programs.

Funding will not be provided to support the following:
- Organizations that practice discrimination by race, color, creed, sex, age or national origin
- Contributions to capital campaigns
- Operating deficits or retirement of debt
- Endowment programs
- Construction projects or real estate acquisitions
- Political projects of any kind
- Vehicles, such as vans or buses
- Emergency medical services equipment
- Clothing or uniforms for specific groups
- Personnel Salaries

Pre-Application Information:

Rolling deadline for applications: April 15th, July 15th and October 15th

You will be notified by e-mail of receipt of the application.

You will be notified of grant status 15 days after due date.

Successful grant recipients will receive a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to be returned within 10 days of receipt.
