Grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to Kansas and Missouri nonprofit organizations to benefit African-American residents of the Greater Kansas City area. Applicants must consult with program staff to confirm eligibility prior to applying. This fund seeks to enhance the socioeconomic well-being of the African-American community.

To be considered a potential grantee, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and demonstrate a programmatic focus on improving the quality of life of African-Americans in the Greater Kansas City region through one of the following areas: Health Care, Education, and Youth Development.

Grants usually range in size from $500 to $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

While requests to support special events are discouraged, the following types of grants will not be considered:
-Grants to endowments or to consultants that help prepare, create and build endowments
-Reduction or liquidation of existing debt
-Capital expenditures
-Scholarships or grants to individuals
-Annual appeals or fundraising drives, membership contributions and conference expenses

Pre-Application Information:

In general, the Black Community Fund will not be the sole or primary funder of a proposed project or organization.

If your organization has never applied to the Black Community Fund, please call program staff before applying to help determine if your project is a good fit for this opportunity.

The BCF Board of Directors will also give consideration to a vital Community Enhancement, that which will have positive long-term impact and/or is affecting systemic change – please call to discuss your Community Enhancement concept before submitting.

The Black Community Fund has the following deadlines:
-Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 5:00 PM (Applications reviewed in March)
-Wednesday, August 8, 2018, 5:00 PM (Applications reviewed in September)

All applications must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. CST on the due date through the internet grant application module (iGAM).
