Grants to USA, Canada, and Mexico investigators to support innovative research projects related to developing humane methods for studying wildlife and reducing wildlife conflict. The Foundation particularly welcomes projects involving the innovative use of existing technologies and new methodologies.

The purpose of the grant program is to fund innovative, humane, and nonlethal strategies. Salaries or stipends may be included in the budget.

Estimated Size of Grant:

This grant program provides up to $15,000 to award recipients.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the award, the study must be conducted within the United States, Canada, and/or Mexico.

Award recipients will be required to submit IACUC approval (or similar approvals for institutions in Canada or Mexico) for their study (if applicable).

Limitations:

The proposal will not be automatically disqualified if it involves a minimally invasive procedure; however, it will receive additional scrutiny. Studies using more than minimally invasive procedures will not be considered for funding. Any wildlife captured for the proposed study must be released as soon as possible at their capture location.

AWI Policy does not allow for funds to be used for indirect costs.

Purchase of animals is only allowed if the requirements below are fulfilled:
All companion animals must come from reputable sources; be given appropriate food, housing, and companionship during the study; and be provided with the long-term care, including adoption by caring persons, at the conclusion of the study.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due May 29, 2020.

In most cases, the Christine Stevens Wildlife Award will only cover a portion of the costs of a study.
