Grants of up to $5,000 to Texas nonprofit organizations, community groups, and public institutions in eligible locations to benefit local residents. Funding is intended for programs to support vulnerable residents, to develop underserved neighborhoods, and to enhance the local community. Eligible applicants must be located in and provide services to McLennan County.

Through its grantmaking, Waco Foundation allocates funds to support projects which, as the name suggests, are intended to help create an immediate impact on the local community.  Recognizing that the needs and work of the Foundation's community partners differ, the Immediate Impact Grant program has been divided into two categories:

  • Grants to Civic/Community Groups and Nonprofits
  • Grants to Eligible Taxing Entities (i.e., McLennan County school districts, community & technical colleges, CPS & Juvenile programs)

The program, which provides grants to eligible organizations, is intended to:

  • Support the needs of vulnerable residents (e.g., people in poverty, people with disabilities, elderly individuals with limited financial means/access to resources, children and youth)
  • Support grassroots efforts that facilitate development of and development in Waco neighborhoods that have been traditionally underserved or underinvested in financially.  Work will be eligible for consideration if it falls into one or more of the following zip codes: 76704, 76706, and 76707.
  • To nonprofits that work to help foster an inclusive, attractive, supportive community for residents and visitors alike.
For eligible categories for Taxing Entities, see

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant awards typically do not exceed $5,000. The Foundation may make an exception of those projects which call for the use of fiscal sponsor.

Term of Contract:

- General Nonprofit Projects: The Foundation typically does not provide multi-year or repeat funding for a single project or initiative.
- Grassroots Initiatives: The sponsoring organization is eligible to submit requests during each grant cycle, which occurs approximately 5-6 times per year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Requests should originate from organizations (or community/neighborhood associations) that are physically located in, and provide services to McLennan County, Texas residents to be eligible for consideration.

In order to facilitate community organizations and neighborhoods having access to financial resources, the Foundation will deliver the grants for grassroots leadership through a relationship with eligible nonprofit 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsors. At present, Grassroots Community Development has been authorized to serve as a fiscal sponsor. The Foundation is willing to consider additional nonprofits for such positions, as circumstances deem appropriate. LeadershipPLENTY®-Waco Institute graduates, as well as other civic and community leaders interested in applying for support of grassroots initiatives, are encouraged to align with Grassroots Community Development.

The Foundation does recognize that, due to cuts in public funding and the stipulations tied to many government dollars, some public institutions often lack some of the support they need to deliver creative and high impact programs/services to youth and their families. As such, the Foundation is willing to consider supporting projects in specific categories.

For ineligible activities, see p. 2 of the Immediate Impact Grants FAQs in Supporting Documents below.

Pre-Application Information:

While there may be some deviation in response times due to changes in the board meeting schedule or lengthy board deliberation, the dates for the grant cycles are as follows:
