Awards providing a scholarship of $1,500 to Alaska youth between the ages of 6 and 18 to recognize outstanding efforts to give back to the community. Nominations are invited on behalf of youth who are working to make a positive difference. Nominees may be recognized for the following types of efforts:

-Volunteering or raising funds for a cause
-Making a difference in school through education or sports
-Making a significant contribution to his or her community
-Considering others’ needs before their own
-Inspiring others to take action

Any youth who meet the above criteria can self-nominate or be nominated by someone they know. This could be a parent, guardian, sibling, teacher, coach, mentor, friend or anyone who has a relationship with the child and believes they should be recognized as a local hero.

Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska will select five outstanding local heroes, and one Employee Program hero.

-Special recognition in their local community
-A $1,500 scholarship

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nominations for the Program are open to individuals between the ages of 6 and 18 at the time of entry, who are legal residents of Alaska. Employees, and immediate family members, of Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska, and their agents, and their immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings, spouse and grandparents), and those living with any employee or family member are only eligible to be nominated for the ONE Employee Program award.

However, employees may nominate young heroes, provided those nominated are not related to any employee of Alaska Communications or the Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska. Enlisted Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska ARE eligible to win, unless related to an employee. Previous Summer of Heroes winners are ineligible.

Pre-Application Information:

All nominations must be received by 5 p.m. AKDT on June 28.

To enter, submit a completed nomination form to any Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska Clubhouse; or electronically through the Alaska Communications online form or e-mail the completed application.

Prizes will be awarded before September 30, 2019 with the exception of the $1,500 scholarship which may take up to 60 days to distribute to selected heroes.

Timeline:
- April 2: Nomination period opens. Forms are available online and at Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska locations.
- June 28: Nomination period closes. Completed forms must be submitted online or in person by 5 p.m.
- August/September: Heroes are recognized during a special celebration in their local community. Date is dependent on local schedule.
- September 7: Alaska Communications presents donation to Boys and Girls Clubs – Alaska at annual Great Futures Gala.
