Awards to recognize Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC businesses that are majority-owned by a family and are based in one of the below-listed eligible counties. This award program is intended to honor and recognize businesses in the region that have multiple generations involved in the operations of the company and/or have established longevity in business.
Eligible Counties include: Alexandria and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties in Virginia; and Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in Maryland.
The awards are given in recognition of the overall excellence, innovation, ethics, and philanthropy of family-owned businesses. The judges are looking for a compelling story about a locally-based company that has achieved demonstrated success in the past 12 to 18 months.
Honorees will be featured in a special section in the paper and recognized at an event on February 28, 2019.

To be considered for the program, participants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 51 percent owned by the family.
- Have multiple generations involved in the operations of the company and/or have established longevity in business.
- Nominated companies should be located in Washington, D.C. or within one of the following jurisdictions: Alexandria and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties in Virginia; and Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in Maryland
Nominations will be accepted until midnight on December 7, 2018.
