Request a Grant Writer

Grants ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 to Bay Area, California nonprofit organizations for programs that assist families and the elderly to fill their basic needs in Marin, Contra Costa, Alameda, and San Francisco counties. Funding is intended for programs that provide essential food or shelter services.

The Foundation specifically supports:
-Emergency and transitional shelter (including emergency domestic violence shelters) that include wrap-around services for clients
-Food and nutrition services for low-income seniors
-Food distribution and meal programs for families and individuals

Eligible uses of funds include:
-General support when all or a significant portion of an organization’s programming focuses on food or shelter for families and/or the elderly in need.
-Specific programs that help families and/or the elderly meet their basic food and shelter needs.
-Capital needs that would enhance the ability of an organization to serve families and the elderly.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grant requests typically fall in the range of $20,000 – $50,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The general requirements for eligibility are:
-Organizations that work in and serve residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and/or San Francisco counties
-Public charities operating under an IRS 501(c)(3) status or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization
-Organizations that have an annual financial audit in accordance with approved accounting practices (or financial statements for the last completed fiscal year if audited financial statements are not available)

Limitations:
-No gifts are made to individuals, events, or annual appeals.
-The Foundation does not support programs focused solely on academic remediation.

Pre-Application Information:

The Foundation will accept proposal submissions for consideration three times a year. Applications are due at 5:00 PM Pacific time on the last day of the submission period.

-May 2019 Board Meeting: Application period closed
- September 2019 Board Meeting: May 6-20, 2019 application period
- December 2019 Board Meeting: August 2-16, 2019 application period
