Grants to Alberta nonprofit arts organizations in eligible locations to expand on a previously initiated experiment intended to lead to transformational impact on the organization's work. Interested applicants are required to contact Foundation staff prior to applying. Funded activities should scale up work accomplished in the previous experimentation phase and further prototyping. Activities should benefit the Calgary arts community, including the surrounding area of Rocky View County, MD Foothills, Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, and Rosebud.

Building off of successful experimentation, Rozsa Foundation Transformation Grants are designed to support an organization through the expansion of an idea. Applicants should have conducted some tangible experimentation around their idea, whether through the Rozsa Foundation Experimentation Grants, the New Pathways for the Arts Program, Calgary Arts Development’s Small Experiments program or in other ways. The ability to articulate the learnings that have come from these previous experiments and how they have brought the organization to the next phase of its work in this area is critical in articulating the case for support.

An organization’s ability to pass on their learning on to the broader community is also a key component to the Transformation Grants.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Support through this grant stream can possibly exceed that available through the Rozsa Foundation’s other grant streams.

Term of Contract:

Support through this grant stream can potentially provide multi-year support for the transformational initiative.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Through their Granting Program, the Rozsa Foundation supports Alberta-based arts charities. The following requirements apply to all Rozsa Foundation granting streams:

- You must be a charity with a valid CRA charitable business number (9 digits, 2 letters, 4 digits).
- You must be an arts-focused organization (or be applying for support in engaging the arts to further your mission).
- The focus of the Foundation's investment is in Calgary and the surrounding area (including Rocky View County, MD Foothills, Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, and Rosebud) as well as to provincial organizations whose initiatives will directly benefit the Calgary arts community. Action Learning Projects are eligible regardless of where in Alberta the organization is based.
- Organizations located outside of these areas may still be eligible but should contact staff prior to beginning the application.

Preference may be given to proposals that are geared toward equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives, those that harness the power of art for social change (especially in partnership with other, non-arts based organizations), those that promote inter-organizational collaboration, and those that can use a Rozsa Foundation grant to leverage additional funding or other resources, as reflected in the project budget.

The Foundation does not fund administrative salaries, normal administrative costs, deficit financing, debt repayment, or capital campaigns. Normal programming activities are not eligible, but new programs or significant expansions are eligible if they can advance the organization in a meaningful way. New activities may require additional administrative capacity, which is an eligible expense. The Foundation does not provide operating or undesignated funding, nor does the Foundation fund retroactively. If you are incurring costs before our decision meeting (typically three weeks after the deadline), the expenses may be ineligible.

Pre-Application Information:

2021 Deadlines:
- Friday, January 15, 2021 (decisions mid-March)
- Friday, May 7, 2021 (decisions late-May)
- Friday, September 30, 2021 (decisions late-October)

All applications are to be made online.

Applicants will require a registration code to access the online application, which can be received by emailing Executive Director Simon Mallett.

Organizations seeking to apply for a Rozsa Foundation Transformation Grant must begin by having a conversation with the Rozsa Foundation, in order to discuss what experimentation has already taken place, where the next phase of the work might go and where the transformational impact lies. An appropriate funding amount request will also be determined in conjunction with this conversation about the application with Rozsa Foundation staff.

Organizations are only eligible to submit to one grant stream per application deadline.
