Grants of up to $3,000 to Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas hospital libraries to encourage hospital administrators and staff to make use of library resources and services. Possible projects include public relations activities, social media outreach, special events, and other activities that promote the role libraries can play in disseminating health information.

The mission of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) is to advance the progress of medicine and improve the public health by providing all U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information and improving the public's access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health.

The NNLM regional program is coordinated by the National Library of Medicine and is carried out through a nationwide network of health science libraries and information centers. To accomplish the goals of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, funding opportunities are offered by the NNLM SCR to provide resources to libraries, community based organizations, public health professionals, health educators, faith-based agencies and other information partners throughout the South Central Region of the United States. States served by the NNLM SCR include Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The purpose of this award is to support projects that promote the value of the hospital library to hospital administrators and staff. As hospitals expand their services and programs, hospital librarians can play a significant role in areas such as: education and training to address knowledge management, clinical information systems, patient safety programs, electronic health records, health literacy or patient education. Promotional efforts that enable hospital library staff to become more integrated into these areas of service are encouraged.

Projects can include but are not limited to:
-Working with a public relations staff or firm to develop an educational campaign which can include posters, flyers, brochures, etc., to promote library services in the institution or community
-Using social media to highlight library services or resources that align with administrative goals
-Holding a special event that advertises new or unique library services such as scholarly research support, evidence-based practice, and health information literacy
-Promoting the role libraries can play relating to the implementation of electronic health records or knowledge management initiatives

Funding will cover (these are examples only and are not meant to be all-inclusive): Consultants, equipment, software, supplies, travel and reproduction.
