Opportunity for Gulf Coast Region, Florida nonprofit board members to attend a high-level governance training program. Applications are accepted from both new and veteran board members located in the Gulf Coast region. Participants will attend interactive sessions and follow-up discussions with peers. The purpose of this program is to build the capacity of local nonprofits.

Through the Gulf Coast Board Institute, participants are provided with a comprehensive overview of governance issues as well as in-depth exploration of key governance topics.

All components of the Gulf Coast Board Institute are provided at no cost to participants. The following topics are covered over the course of the Gulf Coast Board Institute sessions:

-The basics of nonprofit board governance
-Becoming an ambassador for your organization
-Financial and legal oversight responsibilities
-Creating a highly functioning and engaged board

Selection Process:

Participants will be selected through a competitive process with the intent of creating a group of individuals with a variety of experiences.

Regardless of prior board experience, all participants should possess a personal commitment to use what they learn through the Gulf Coast Board Institute to strengthen the governance capacity of a nonprofit organization in the Gulf Coast region.

Number of Grants:

Gulf Coast will select up to 20 applicants to participate in the Winter 2019 Board Institute.

Term of Contract:

The Winter 2019 Board Institute will consist of four full-day trainings to be held at Gulf Coast's headquarters in Venice on consecutive Fridays beginning February 1.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Gulf Coast Board Institute provides high-level board governance training to active nonprofit board members in the Gulf Coast region.

Pre-Application Information:

The next Board Institute will be held in February 2019, with sessions scheduled for February 1, 8, 15, and 22. Applications for this class will be due on December 14, 2018.

- December 14, at 11:59 p.m. EST: Application deadline (including recommendation)
- January 7, 2019: Applicant notification
