Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $35,000 to USA and International nonprofit organizations for grassroots projects that empower poverty-stricken girls and women. Funding is intended to support projects that promote good health, economic self-sufficiency, and education in developing countries. The Foundation selects a featured grantee each month and promotes it throughout the month at chapter meetings, through mailings, social media and online communications.

Guiding Principles:

  • To maximize the educational opportunities for DFW members, during the course of a year, DFW will strive to fund projects that address the varied issues, needs, and geography of women and girls
  • Projects funded will address one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Projects funded will create lasting change in the lives of the women and/or girls who are affected.
  • Projects provide solutions that have been identified by the women and/or girls being served and must actively include their perspectives.
  • Grantee must be able to demonstrate the direct impact of the project funded and demonstrate methods and ability to monitor and evaluate the project.
  • Grantees are sustainable organizations with multiple funding sources.

Number of Grants:

Six grantees will be selected for funding.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Applications are being accepted in the range of $25,000 to $35,000.

Term of Contract:

Funding may be disbursed in one distribution or may be taken in up to two equal distributions spanning a period of two years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Requirements for Grantees:
-Grantee must be a US 5.01(c)3 corporation or have a fiscal sponsor which is a US 501(c)3 corporation.
-Grantee’s relationship with fiscal sponsor must be of at least twelve months’ standing.
-Grantee must demonstrate capacity and on the ground operations in countries with populations of greatest need for a minimum of three years.
-Grantee and/or fiscal sponsor must provide Form 990 or Form 990 EZ for the two most recent consecutive years demonstrating $100,000 in annual expenses. 990-Ns or 990-PFs are not accepted.
-At least half of the members of board of directors of the grantee organization must be women at time of application.

Dining for Women does not fund:
-Organizations with political affiliations
-Consolidated funding activities (grant making organizations / grant funder)
-Group trusts
-Organizations with religious affiliations
-Foundations
-Endowments
-Individuals
-Membership Campaigns
-Previously funded Featured organizations in our Featured Grants Program.
-Major building projects, land purchases, and large capital expenditures.
-US administrative expenses and US office expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

For Grant Cycle 1, submit a letter of intent online by 11:45 pm EST, April 24.
For Grant Cycle 2, submit a letter of intent online between October 1 - October 24 (by 11:45 pm EST).

Dining for Women has two annual grant cycles:

Grant Cycle 1:
- April 8 - April 24: Grant cycle opens for acceptance of letters of intent (LOIs)
- May: Full review of LOIs by Grant Selection Committee
- June: Top 15 of LOIs are invited to submit a full grant proposal
- July - August: Full review of applications by Grant Selection Committee
- September: Final approval of grantees by Board
- October: Announcement of grantees

Grant Cycle 2:
- October 1 - October 24: Grant cycle opens for acceptance of letters of intent (LOIs)
- November: Full review of LOIs by Grant Selection Committee
- December: Top 15 of LOIs are invited to submit a full grant proposal
