Grants of up to $50,000 to USA nonprofit organizations and government agencies for activities to protect the environment in the state of Minnesota. Funding is intended to support projects that enhance or restore wetlands, forests, prairies, and habitats for game, fish, and wildlife. Projects must be conducted on public lands or waters or lands protected by a permanent conservation easement.

Grants are limited to a maximum award of $50,000 (minimum $5,000).

Term of Contract:

The grant period begins when the final signature on the grant contract is obtained and continues until all work is completed but no later than June 30, 2024, for FY21 funds.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nonprofit organizations and government entities are eligible for CPL funding. Partnerships are encouraged.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages the CPL program to provide grants to local, regional, state, and national nonprofit organizations and government entities.

Projects may be located on any eligible lands/waters in Minnesota. To be eligible, activities must be on the ECP Project List (see Supporting Documents below).

Activities include restoration and enhancement projects only (no acquisitions).

Private individuals and for-profit organizations may not apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Completed applications will be pulled for review every two months, and grants awarded until all funds are used up (up to 5 rounds). ECP applicants will be notified within 4 to 6 weeks of the deadline for the round in which they applied.

- September 14, 2020: ECP Round 1 Closes, 3:00 PM
October 23, 2020: Announce funded ECP applications

- November 16, 2020: ECP Round 2 Closes, 3:00 PM
December 21, 2020: Announce funded ECP applications

- January 19, 2021: ECP Round 3 Closes, 3:00 PM
February 26, 2021: Announce funded ECP applications

- March 15, 2021: ECP Round 4 Closes, 3:00 PM
April 23, 2021: Announce funded ECP applications

- May 10, 2021: ECP Round 5 Closes, 3:00 PM
June 10, 2021: Announce funded ECP applications

A signed Land Manager Review and Approval Form is a required attachment for all applications. If the Land Manager or easement holder cannot access the Natural Heritage Database, they must contact CPL Grant Staff for assistance at least 10 days prior to the application deadline.The Public Waters Project Form must also be completed and attached if any work will involve public waters. Financial documentation must be submitted for nongovernmental organizations requesting over $25,000.

There is a 10% non-state match requirement. Total project costs may not exceed $575,000.

CPL is a reimbursement-based grant program.
