Grants typically ranging from $500 to $2,000 to Virginia nonprofit organizations and government agencies to benefit residents of the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, and Augusta County. Funding is intended to cover expenses and supplies, including: appliances, one-time expenses, and emergency supports. Priority lies with requests seeking reimbursements for items that have a direct relationship to client use and relate to CAPSAW's mission and strategic objectives.

Requests must align with at least one of the following areas of impact:
- Education
- Employment & Employment Supports
- Housing
- Medical Care
- Behavioral Health Services
- Community Awareness of Available Services

Programs may request up to $2,000 in Community Support each fiscal year. Awards typically range from $500 to $2,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility is limited to organizations able to demonstrate proof of non-profit status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and to departments of local government organizations either located in or currently operating programs within the City of Staunton, City of Waynesboro, and/or Augusta County.

Any entity employed by or under contract with an organization represented on the CAPSAW board, or vice versa, may apply for funding; however, such applications may not be reviewed or discussed by that CAPSAW board member. Similarly, any agency involved at the executive level of CAPSAW cannot discuss or participate in the review of an application submitted by their agency.

- If an application is submitted by faith-based organizations, outreach efforts and service delivery must be conducted regardless of program beneficiary faith affiliation.

- Activities must be delivered from a location that is accessible to all potential beneficiaries or an alternative means of service delivery to people with disabilities must be identified.

- Programs and services may not be marketed or offered exclusively to members of the sponsoring organization’s religious affiliation or denomination.

- Community support funds should not be used to cover staffing or other administrative expenses.

- Funds will not be used to support personnel, fundraising or general operating expenses.

- Open beneficiary programs that cannot accurately and realistically demonstrate demographic and income data of the clientele served will not be considered for the CSBG/TANF competitive application funding stream.

Pre-Application Information:

All reimbursements must be submitted by June 15, 2019.

Please limit an application to two 2 pages and submit via email to CAPSAW.

Community support applications will be considered on a rolling basis until designated funds have been expended.

Applications should be submitted 10 business days prior to a board meeting. Applications received less than 10 days prior will be reviewed at the next regularly scheduled board meeting. The schedule can be found online. The CAPSAW Director will review applications determined to be time sensitive with the Chair of the CAPSAW Board of Directors for consideration.

Funds are disbursed on a reimbursement basis after receipts reflecting purchase are received.
