Request a Grant Writer

Grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 and grants ranging from $50 to $500 to Dorchester County, Maryland nonprofit organizations, museums, and municipalities to promote tourism throughout the County. Funding is intended to support activities such as natural resource projects, preservation planning, research, and professional development activities that enhance local heritage resources and events.

Mini-Grants help fund projects in the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area, supporting the efforts of local museums, organizations, and municipalities that advance the mission and goals of the Heritage Area. Projects must be heritage-tourism related. Only non-capital projects are eligible for funding. Samples of projects include, but are not limited to:

- Research and Documentation
- Brochures/Marketing
- Interpretive Planning
- Interpretation and Education
- Preservation Planning
- Events
- Feasibility Studies
- Exhibits and Way Finding
- Natural Resource Projects
- Professional Development/Conferences

Projects must be located within the boundaries of the Heritage Area and must be consistent with the mission and goals of the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area as shown in the Foundation's Five-Year Action Plan (see Supporting Documents below).

Estimated Size of Grant:

Award Amounts: Between $500 and $5,000 for projects or between $50 and $500 for professional development.

No grant will be made for more than 50 percent of the total project cost.

Term of Contract:

Projects must be completed by Friday, August 23, 2020.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Mini-Grants support the efforts of local museums, nonprofit organizations, and municipalities that advance the mission and goals of the Heritage Area.

Applicants must demonstrate ability to manage grants and execute projects within a required timeframe.

Pre-proposal Conference:

A Mini-Grant Workshop will take Wednesday, June 26, 2019, from 4 to 5 p.m..

Pre-Application Information:

Timeframe:

- Mini-Grant Workshop: June 26, 2019
- Applications Due: On or before August 7, 2019 (round one) or January 10, 2020 (round two)
- Review by HCCHA at Management Board Meeting: Thursday, August 22, 2019 (round one) or Thursday, January 23, 2020 (round two).
- Progress Report Due: Friday, February 21, 2020 (round 1) or Friday, May 29, 2020 (round two).
- Project Completion/Final Report: Friday, August 23, 2020.

Match
- Cash match required (no in-kind services) with proof that the match is equal to (or greater than) the grant request. No grant will be made for more than 50 percent of the total project cost.
- The match must be from a non-state source.

This is a reimbursement grant.
