Grant of $24,000 to a New York City nonprofit organization in the metropolitan area for girls' leadership and social justice programs. Funding is intended to support programming on behalf of adolescent girls that promotes social-emotional learning, civic involvement, leadership development skills, activism, self-confidence and awareness, and interpersonal skills.
Unleashed is a social justice and leadership program that transforms the lives of middle-school girls. Unleashed empowers girls to take a stand against an injustice they care deeply about and advocating for animal rights and welfare in the process. At the pivotal time of adolescence, girls learn to advocate for others; think critically about a complex social problem; and, most importantly, gain confidence in their ability to lead and effect change.
Unleashed is a 12-week after-school program for middle-school girls that is led by masters-level certified coaches with an expertise in development who are trained in the Unleashed models of social justice and power. Unleashed provides girls with positive templates that will impact their future. Methodology focuses on strengthening the core skills necessary for individual and collaborative leadership. After participating in Unleashed, girls have learned to embrace their power and develop a sense of self and identity.
Funds must be used to advance the mission of the grant recipient organization and such mission must be aligned with the goals and objectives of Unleashed. This will be a major consideration in awarding the funding.
