Grants to New Mexico small businesses to support research related to the commercialization of technologies. Funding is intended for activities that promote market entry, business compensation, customer acquisition, and job creation following a federal award. The goal of this matching program is to obtain follow-on funding, stimulate business growth and expansion, generate wealth, increase tax revenue, and promote the commercial viability of the receiving firms. SBIR grants cover costs associated with R&D.

Term of Contract:

All grant funds must be invoiced and expended by fiscal year-end, June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
1) Applicants must be a New Mexico based company with a CRS Tax ID, an NM address, and an EIN number.
2) Applicants must have an active Phase I or Phase II SBIR/STTR grant at the time of application.
3) Applicants may only apply once per fiscal year and not received a previous NM SBIR Grant award using the same grant for which they are applying.
4) Applicants must provide a copy of their “letter of good standing” from the NM Secretary of State.
5) Applicants must agree that at least fifty-one percent (51%) of the activities conducted under the federal SBIR award grant and thirty-one percent (31%) of the state-level funds will be performed in New Mexico.
6) Applicant must certify that they have not overdue tax debt or are not party to any claim or lawsuit.
7) Applicants must agree to all reporting and claw-back requirements.

SBIR grants do not cover expenses related to business development. Ineligible costs include marketing and salaries for employees related to business operations.
