Grants of $5,000 to USA individual artists for urgent financial support during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to assist artists who are experiencing severe financial setbacks due to the pandemic. Practicing artists must be able to demonstrate a sustained commitment to their work, careers, and a public audience. Dire financial emergencies are defined as the lack or imminent endangerment of essentials such as housing, medicine, childcare, and food.

Applicants should select the discipline with which their work most deeply aligns. 

  • Craft (ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metals, textiles, etc.)
  • Dance (dancers + choreographers; aerial, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, tap, etc.)
  • Design (fashion, graphic, industrial, object, all forms of architecture, etc.)
  • Film (animation, documentary, episodic, experimental, narrative, etc.)
  • Media (work that uses technology, aesthetics, storytelling, digital cultures, and so on; including but not limited to immersive design, interactive media, podcasts, virtual reality, web-based projects, etc.)
  • Music (composers + musicians; classical, contemporary, experimental, folk, instrumental, jazz, pop, world, etc.)
  • Theater & Performance (directing, experimental, live action, playwriting, puppetry, tactical and site performance, etc.)
  • Traditional Arts (work related to the continuity and evolution of a tradition and/or cultural heritage such as cultural dance, cultural music, oral expression, and traditional crafts, etc.)
  • Visual Art (installation, painting, performance art, photography, sculpture, sound art, video, etc.)
  • Writing (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, literature for children, criticism, graphic novels, journalism, arts writing, etc.)

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for a relief grant, applicants must be:
- Practicing artists able to demonstrate a sustained commitment to their work, careers, and a public audience;
- Experiencing dire financial emergencies due to the COVID-19 pandemic;
- 21 years of age or older;
- Able to receive taxable income in the U.S. (e.g. citizen, green card holder, and/or permanent resident who can provide a W9 and SSN or ITIN);
- Residing and working in the U.S. for the last two years;
- Not a full-time employee, board member, director, officer, or immediate family member of any of the coalition partners;
- Not previously awarded a relief grant from this fund.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are now open for Cycle VI, which closes at 11:59 PM ET on September 23rd.

Grants will be available and distributed over six months to allow time for internal processing as well as communication to reach as many artists as possible, especially those who may not have immediate access to technology or other resources to complete an application quickly.

The application will be open in cycles based on these exact dates:
- Cycle I: April 8 - April 23 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle II: April 24 - May 20 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle III: May 21 - June 17 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle IV: June 18 - July 22 (closes 11:59pm ET)
- Cycle V: July 23 - August 26 (closes 11:59pm ET)
