Grant Description
Contracts for services to USA nonprofit and for-profit organizations, IHEs, and government agencies for research projects on a wide range of health-related topics. Applicants must submit a letter of intent prior to submitting a full application. Funding is intended for research addressing health equity, health communication, and increasing evidence for existing interventions and emerging innovations in health.
This funding opportunity seeks applications that address PCORI’s National Priorities for Health. To be considered responsive, applications must describe research that compares at least two alternative approaches to achieve one or more of the National Priorities for Health:
  • Increase Evidence for Existing Interventions and Emerging Innovations in Health
  • Accelerate Progress Toward an Integrated Learning Health System
  • Achieve Health Equity
  • Advance the Science of Dissemination, Implementation, and Health Communication

This funding opportunity contains three categories for funding, which are applicable to the four National Priorities for Health:

  • Category 1: Less than or equal to $5 million in direct costs
  • Category 2: Greater than $5 million in direct costs and up to $10 million in direct costs
  • Category 3: PCORnet® Studies up to $10 million in direct costs

Additional Eligibility Criteria
In general, applications for the conduct of research and management of funding may be submitted by appropriate academic research, private sector research, or study-conducting entities. This may include, among others, agencies and instrumentalities of the Federal Government, nonprofit and for-profit research organizations, and colleges and universities.

Foreign Organizations and Nondomestic Components of U.S. Organizations must provide a thorough and thoughtful justification for the research's ability to benefit the US healthcare system and that the engagement plans include US patients and stakeholders, and are relevant to US healthcare system.

Applying for funding through this PFA is a two-stage process. An LOI must be submitted, and an applicant must be invited to submit an application. Only applicants whose LOIs are deemed most responsive to this PFA will be invited to submit a full application.
