Nonprofit Grants to Protect and Sustain Wildlife Ecosystems
Wildlife ecosystems are often fragile and increasingly threatened by development, climate change, and environmental degradation. Protecting these ecosystems, and the species that depend on them, requires targeted funding, long-term planning, and strong community involvement.
GrantWatch is committed to helping organizations and communities identify funding opportunities that support the restoration, protection, and sustainability of wildlife ecosystems. Below is a curated list of currently available grants and in-kind support opportunities focused on wildlife and habitat conservation. In addition, GrantWatch features over 600 active grants in its Pets and Animal Wildlife grant listing category.
Grants, Opportunities, and In-Kind Support for Wildlife Ecosystems
Funds to Improve Fish Habitats and Ease Waterway Passages
Grants are available to units of local government, Tribes, and states for projects that improve fish habitats and remove barriers to waterway passage. Funding supports the replacement, removal, or repair of culverts and weirs to improve access for anadromous fish species.
Fund Protection for Water Resources and Water Quality
Grants support state agencies and Tribes in efforts to protect water resources and improve water quality. Funding covers the establishment of rental programs for portable skidder bridges, bridge mats, and temporary water-crossing structures. Eligible projects must reduce streambed disturbance on both non-federal and designated federal lands and demonstrate clear benefits to underserved or historically marginalized populations, local communities, and nearby forest ecosystems.
Fund Enhanced Conservation and Management of Natural Resources
Grants of up to $40,000 are available to nonprofits to support enhanced conservation and management of natural resources. Funding prioritizes initiatives that protect ecosystems and conserve marine and environmental resources.
Grants and In-Kind Support to Protect Water Habitats
Grants of up to $5,000, along with in-kind support, are available to nonprofits, community groups, and businesses working to conserve, restore, and protect wildlife habitats in rivers, streams, swamps, and wetlands. Both new and ongoing projects are eligible, with priority given to innovative, locally driven sustainability initiatives.
Fund Organizations for Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Protection
Grants of up to $15,000 support organizations engaged in wildlife conservation and environmental protection. Eligible applicants must align with at least one focus area, including wildlife conservation, outdoor sports, or environmental education programs.
Grants for Freshwater Turtle Conservation Projects
There are grants of up to $5,000 to organizations and individuals for wildlife conservation and other research projects. The funding will cover direct expenses focused on the conservation of freshwater turtles and/or tortoises.
Fund Nonprofits for Ecological Conservation Advertising Campaigns
Lastly, grants of up to $15,000 to nonprofits for advertising campaigns to further the cause of wildlife preservation. Priority consideration will be for projects achieving an immediate and measurable impact on wildland ecosystems, addressing restoration and conservation that goes beyond just being ‘purely educational.’
Bottom Line
Protecting wildlife ecosystems requires consistent investment, collaboration, and action at the local, regional, and national levels. Grant funding plays a vital role in empowering organizations to rehabilitate damaged habitats, sustain biodiversity, and ensure ecosystems remain healthy for generations to come.
GrantWatch continues to support these efforts by providing access to hundreds of wildlife and environmental grants—helping communities protect the natural resources that matter most.
