Awards of $5,000 and $10,000 to Illinois full-time public or non-public school teachers and leaders. Awards are intended to acknowledge outstanding teachers, heads of schools, and principals who have exhibited exemplary performance and who have contributed to building a stronger, better-educated society.

Two awards are offered this year:

Golden Apple Award - Teacher candidates must be currently teaching in grades 9-12 full time in an Illinois public or non-public school, and must have completed no fewer than four years of teaching prior to this school year. In their teaching and results, candidates must be able to demonstrate significant, positive impact on their students' growth and learning.

Golden Apple Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award - School leader candidates must have served as PreK-12th grade principal, or head of school, or leader at one or more public or non-public schools for at least five consecutive school years. Candidates must have had a significant and sustained positive impact on the school, created a culture of inclusivity, and delivered dramatic student growth.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The Teacher Award recipients receive:
- Induction into the esteemed Golden Apple Academy of Educators
- Recognition on a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) one-hour TV program and livestream marketed to local school communities
- A paid spring quarter sabbatical at Northwestern University in Evanston (recipients may take as many courses as they wish in any subjects they choose)
- A $5,000 cash award

The leader Award recipient receives:
- Induction into the esteemed Golden Apple Academy of Educators
- Recognition on a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) one-hour TV program and livestream marketed to local school communities
- A cash award of $10,000 with $5,000 going toward the administrator’s professional development and $5,000 to the school for a project of the recipient’s choosing.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible Golden Apple Award Teacher Candidates:
- Classroom teachers currently teaching in grades 9-12 full-time at a public or non-public school in Illinois.
- The minimum teaching requirement requires that a candidate must be actively teaching in a full-time teaching position today and must have completed no fewer than four years of teaching prior to this school year.

Eligible Golden Apple Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award Candidates:
- Any Pre-K-12th grade principal, head of school, or leader of a public or non-public school in Illinois is eligible for Golden Apple's Stanley C. Golder Leadership Award
- Candidates must have served as principal or head of school at one or more public or non-public schools for at least five consecutive school years.
