Grants of up to $10,000 to Minnesota and Wisconsin nonprofit organizations in eligible regions to enhance the quality of life in local communities. Funding is intended to support projects in the areas of economic development, community service, environment, education and youth, disaster relief, and energy assistance. Funded projects must benefit parts of Douglas, Washburn, and Burnett counties in Wisconsin, and parts of Aitkin, Carlton, Morrison, Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Kanabec, Isanti, Pine, Chisago, Washington, and Benton counties in Minnesota.

The ORU program has provided funds for the purchase of thermal imaging cameras and breathing apparatus for local fire departments, assistance for emergency heating programs, funds for crisis agencies and women’s shelters, K-9 units, playground equipment, local food shelves and many other worthwhile causes.

Grants will not normally exceed $10,000 for any one group, organization or charity.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Contributions will generally be made to non-profit organizations that have been granted tax-exempt status under IRS Code Section 501(c).

Contributions will generally be made to non-profit, civic or community-based organizations that demonstrate a commitment to enhance the quality of life in the region.

Operation Round Up contributions will be used primarily in the local area served by the cooperative. ECE service area extends from northwestern Wisconsin on the east to the Mississippi River on the west. It includes parts of Douglas, Washburn and Burnett counties in Wisconsin and parts of Aitkin, Carlton, Morrison, Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Kanabec, Isanti, Pine, Chisago, Washington, and Benton counties in Minnesota.

Contributions will generally not be made for:
a. Lobbying, political and religious organizations or highly sensitive/controversial events.
b. Fraternal and labor organizations.
c. Fundraising dinners, raffles and other events.
d. Individuals.
e. Capital fund campaigns.
f. National fund drives.
g. Advertising.
h. Ongoing operational expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

Application deadline is 4 p.m., September 13, 2021. Applications will be reviewed by the ECE Operation Round Up Trust Board on October 18, 2021.

The Operation Round Up Trust Board meets quarterly to review applications and award grants. For the current year, the deadline and meeting dates are as follows:

- Meeting Date: January 18, 2021

- Application Due Date: March 15, 2021 - closed
- Meeting Date: April 19, 2021

- Application Due Date: June 14, 2021 - closed
- Meeting Date: July 12, 2021

- Application Due Date: September 13, 2021
- Meeting Date: October 18, 2021

Grants will be awarded only one time per year for any organization.

Contributions will not be granted to an organization for a project or application that has received funding more than twice consecutively (two years in a row) for the same project/activity.
