Award of $500 to a New York City individual writer in recognition of an outstanding non-fiction essay which is set in Brooklyn and is about Brooklyn or Brooklyn people or characters. The contest is intended to showcase compelling stories from writers with a broad range of backgrounds and ages.

From the collection of selected Brooklyn Non-Fiction Prize submissions, five authors will be selected to read from their work and discuss their Brooklyn stories with the audience at the December 2017 event.

The exact date/time and venue will be announced later.

These stories and several other submitted stories will be published on the Brooklyn Film and Arts Festival website and made available to the public.

Winner receives a $500 cash award.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline for submission is November 23, 2017. There is no entry fee.

Submissions should be between 4 to 10 pages, or up to 2,500 words.

The submitted writings will be judged by a panel of Brooklyn writers.
