Grants to Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba registered charities, nonprofit organizations, and cooperatives to build community spaces. Funding is intended to enhance the quality of life for local residents by providing places in which they can come together and build social connections.

Funding categories:

  • Recreation: Creating spaces dedicated to increasing physical activity and exposure to arts and culture.
  • Environmental Conservation: Preserving the natural environment creating opportunities for exploring, learning, and restoring.
  • Urban Agriculture: Increasing food security, food education, and access to locally grown food through support of community gardening initiatives.

Projects eligible for funding must:

  • Be available and accessible for community use
  • Align with one of the three funding categories (recreation, environmental conservation or urban agriculture)
  • Be a capital project
  • Provide the opportunity for permanent signage

Estimated Size of Grant:

Projects can apply for between $25,000 and $150,000 in capital funding.

Term of Contract:

Projects must be completed within two years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants eligible for funding include:
- Registered charities under the Canada Revenue Agency with valid registration numbers
- Registered non-profit organizations under their provincial government with proof of registration (e.g. letters of incorporation)
- Non-profit organizations partnered with their municipal government who will accept funding and issue receipts on their behalf
- Community service co-operatives

Proposed projects must take place in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Manitoba.

Projects ineligible for funding include:
- Those that support religious or politically affiliated organizations
- Those that will have adverse environmental impacts
- Those that are third-party fundraising campaigns

Pre-Application Information:

The 2021 application period will take place from Feb 1 – March 1, 2021.

A sample application will be available mid January to help guide applicants.
