Request a Grant Writer

Grant of up to $1,000 to a USA library employee to participate in continuing education events related to library and information services. Funding is intended to cover travel, lodging, and registration expenses. Funding is intended to provide the librarian or library professional with opportunities to keep current in the field.

Monies may be used to participate in continuing professional development event(s) offered by the American Library Association (ALA), an ALA-related unit or association, State Library Associations, ASTD, the American Management Association (AMA), or any other Learn RT Board approved activity/event. 

In addition to the financial award, the recipient will be provided with access to a member of LRT, who will serve as a "Professional Development Mentor" throughout the award year. If the recipient is already or becomes an ALA member, they will also receive a free one-year membership in LRT. The award recipient will be required to share their new learning with other Round Table members in some way (newsletter, blog, list serve, etc.).

The maximum grant amount is $1,000.

Term of Contract:

The awardee must attend the professional development event between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022. Any un-used grant monies can be applied to other events as long as it meets the above criteria - un-used funds at the end of the award period will be forfeited.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Library faculty are eligible.

The recipient must be an active member of the sponsoring organization hosting the conference/event if the registration fee is higher for non-members.

Eligible applicants do not have to be an ALA member to apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Grant applications are due by March 1, 2021, 11:59 PM CST. The selected recipient of the grant will be notified prior to the ALA Annual Conference in May and the award will be presented during the LearnRT Training Showcase at the ALA Annual Conference.

Please note: If the recipient is participating in a ALA or ALA-related event, monies will be transferred internally instead of being paid to the recipient.

The award recipient will be notified in May 2021.

Documentation/receipts will be required prior to payment.
