Grants to USA nonprofits in multiple states for programs that will enhance the quality of life for eligible communities. New applicants must submit an LOI by November 15, 2017. Funding will be awarded to programs in the areas of education, human services, and healthcare and medical research.

- Human Services Initiatives
The McGowan Fund supports projects that strive to prevent or end homelessness and move people toward self-sufficiency by addressing needs in stabilized housing, food security, job training or education toward a living wage, and mental health services. - Initiatives in Education
The McGowan Fund strives to improve academic achievement, high school graduation rates, and college success. This work encompasses early childhood education; out-of-school academic support; and charter, faith-based, and alternative schools. - Healthcare and Medical Research Initiatives
The McGowan Fund focuses on prevention and behavioral health/lifestyle management efforts to prevent and reverse cardiac disease. Geographic Eligibility:

- Colorado: Homelessness programs that advance low-income, single-parent families in Denver Metropolitan and Eagle County
- Kansas/Missouri: Kansas City Metropolitan
- Nevada: Reno Metropolitan
- New York: Rochester Metropolitan; Buffalo Metropolitan by invitation only
- Pennsylvania: Lackawanna County, Luzerne County
- Illinois: Chicago neighborhoods of Austin and North Lawndale

Term of Contract:

The Fund does not make multi-year awards, but welcomes renewal grant requests.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must:

- Fall within the program area and geographic guidelines
- Be a 501(c)(3) organization
- Serve without discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, gender, or religion

Pre-Application Information:

The McGowan Fund Board of Directors considers grant requests at three board sessions each year. These meetings are held in April, July, and November.

First-time applicants or nonprofits who have not received funding in the past three years must submit a letter of inquiry by November 15, 2017, at 5:00 PM.

Once submitted, the LOI will be reviewed to determine whether the organization and project fit within the scope of the interests of the Fund. If it is determined that your organization and project fit the criteria, your LOI will be approved online, and the LOI will automatically become a draft application. You will receive electronic notice of LOI approval with other pertinent information, and you will be invited to submit an application.
