Grants ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 to USA nonprofit organizations in multiple states for programs that benefit children and youth under the age of 20. Funding is intended to support programming as well as expenses for tangible items, special purchases, and supply items. The Foundation also accepts general operating requests. Eligible states include Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
Cardinals Care is committed to Caring for Kids by providing funding to organizations that serve youth ages 0 – 20 within Cardinals Nation. Cardinals Care has provided support to hundreds of programs and tens of thousands of kids. Cardinals Care gives particular attention to requests for tangible items and one-time capital improvements that directly serve children or directly impact children.

Average amount for a cash grant from Cardinals Care is between $1,000 to $3,000, subject to available funds.
For Applications submitted between 11/6/18 and 1/31/19:
- Funding Period Start Date is between 1/1/19 and 12/31/19
- Funding Period End Date is between 1/1/19 and 12/31/20
In order to qualify for consideration for a grant, the following criteria must be met by the applicant organization:
- Serve or support youths under 20 years old
- Operate in "Cardinals Country"
- Be a 501 (c) (3) with a Federal tax exempt letter
- Must be up and running as a 501(c)(3) for a least 1 year
- Budget for entire organization should not exceed $2,000,000
- Administration/fundraising expenses should not exceed 30% of total budget
Cardinals Care does not fund:
- Annual program costs or salaries
- Operating expenses
- Fundraising event sponsorships (golf, walks/runs, dinner galas, etc.)
- Scholarships/Endowment funds
- Multiple-year pledges
The deadline for submission of the spring application is Thursday, January 31, 2019. In addition to your online application, your required documents must either be emailed to the Foundation by the end of the business day on January 31st or postmarked and in the mail by this date.
Each year Cardinals Care has two grant cycles (spring and summer), as follows:
- Spring - Closes on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
- Summer - Typically opens the end of April or early May and closes the end of June.
The application must be submitted electronically through the link provided on the website. If an application is incomplete or missing pertinent information, the new electronic system will not allow your application to be submitted. Please note that the link is only available when each cycle is open. The Foundation does not accept handwritten applications.
After a completed application is electronically received, you will receive an email notifying you of the mandatory next steps and additional documents needed before the deadline. Once all of the information has been reviewed, and approved for further evaluation, a Cardinals Care representative will call to schedule a visit. If your organization submits an application for the spring grant cycle, you will be contacted beginning in March, with allocation announcements sent in April and funds distributed in late April. If your organization submits an application for the summer grant cycle, you will be contacted beginning in late July or early August, with allocation announcements sent in late August and funds distributed in mid-September.
Organizations can only apply and receive funding once a year.
If your organization previously received a Cardinals Care grant, you must attach both a) a copy of the acknowledgement/award letter informing you of your grant and b) a copy of the receipt(s) for the purchase(s) the grant funded.
