Grant Description
Grants of up to $10,000 to Nova Scotia municipalities, Mi'kmaq Band Councils, schools, and community organizations to obtain professional assistance in the design, research, and planning of existing or proposed sports and recreational facilities. Applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support general facility planning, schematic designs, building audits, and research.

Eligible Initiatives:

  • General facility planning including needs assessments, feasibility studies, business plans, master plans, and facility operations plans.
  • Schematic Design for proposed new or renovated facilities. The schematic design illustrates the scale and character of a project showing how the parts of the project relate to each other. This work includes preliminary costs estimates. The preparation of detailed design or construction documents are eligible under the main capital program and therefore are not eligible.
  • Building Audits forecast the replacement of building components by professional consultants and result in the development of a Life Cycle Plan for a facility.
  • Research involves projects which have province-wide application e.g., exploring/testing alternative energy sources; maintenance strategies or usage.


Additional Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Applicants:
• Registered community associations and non-profit societies with active status including clubs and associations.
• Mi’kmaq Band Councils, Municipalities and Villages.
• Post-Secondary Institutions, Schools through their Regional Centres for Education.

Pre-Application Information
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis between April 1st and December 15th or until the grant program is 100% committed.

Potential applicants are requested to contact a Regional Manager to discuss the proposal, determine eligibility and provide relevant advice and assistance.

Projects approved for funding are eligible to receive up to 50 percent of the total cost of the planning project.

Funding received from other provincial government departments can affect the amount of the grant awarded by CCH. Provincial government funding cannot exceed 3/4 of the project's total cost.

Please allow at least 30 business days after the confirmed receipt of completed application prior to following up on the status.

Estimated Size of Grant
Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the total cost of the project to a maximum of $10,000. Special cases may include planning for large projects or inter-municipal planning requiring technical multi-disciplinary approaches.
