Grants to Maryland restaurants in eligible locations to mitigate the financial impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to cover operating expenses and to support local businesses that may be closed seasonally. Eligible applicants must be located in Worcester County.

Grant funds may be utilized for qualifying expenditures:

  • Working capital, such as rent, payroll, and job training
  • Purchase of equipment and services to expand outdoor dining, such as tents, heaters, warmers, and carts
  • Infrastructure improvements, such as HVAC system upgrades
  • Technology to support carryout and delivery
  • Purchase of PPE and disposable food containers and utensils
  • Sanitization services
  • Facility readiness (social distancing preparedness, business modifications, etc.)

Estimated Size of Grant:

Eligible businesses may apply for one of the following categories:

- $5,000 grant award for restaurants with zero to ten full-time employees
- $7,500 grant award to restaurants with 11 to 25 full-time employees
- $10,000 grant award to restaurants with 26 or more full-time employees

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible businesses must be one of the following:

- Restaurants with zero to ten full-time employees
- Restaurants with 11 to 25 full-time employees
- Restaurants with 26 or more full-time employees

Eligibility requirements:
- Must be located in Worcester County
- Must have been in operation prior to March 9, 2020
- Must be in good standing with the State of Maryland and Worcester County, and registered with the state, if required to do so by law, as of March 9, 2020. (A Certificate of Good Standing can be found at the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation website:
- For franchises: business affiliates, subsidiaries, and parent company must have a combined revenue of less than $5 million.
- Priority preference will be given to applicants who have not received grant assistance to date.

Nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and churches are ineligible.

Businesses who submit applications for more than one grant will not enter the queue for consideration and will need to be resubmitted to only one of the grant programs. Applying for more than one grant will jeopardize your opportunity for funding through this grant initiative.

Funding may not be used for:
- Capital Improvements not associated with COVID-­19 or personal expenses
- Items already covered through other CARES Act Funding (i.e., Payroll through PPP)

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted online beginning Monday, November 16, 2020 and will be accepted until funds allocated have been fully expended. Applications will be accepted until November 30th, 2020 at 11:59 PM.

Applications will be processed and funded as quickly as possible.
